McFadden writes excellent psychological thrillers. The Housemaid's Secret follows Millie the housemaid from the first book. It's been five years and Mille is nannying, clean homes and going to school to become a social worker. Enzo her partner is no longer around and Millie is dating a man named Brock.
Mille is hired to clean penthouse for the wealthy Garrick family. Douglas Garrick has given Millie a rule - she is to leave his wife alone. She is not to disturb his wife who has a health condition and prefers to be secluded. Millie finds is an odd rule but the pay is too good to refuse the job.
Millie comes across bloodstains while cleaning this causes her to break the rule and knock on the wife's door. Millie isn't prepared for what she discovers - Wendy's face is battered and bruised. Millie feels the need to help her but things are much more complicated that she knows.
This book is an amazing second installment not something we see much in series. McFadden pulls out twist and turns. Be prepared to do nothing but read once you start this book.
