Tears of the Silenced: A True Crime and an American Tragedy; Severe Child Abuse and Leaving the Amish | By Misty Griffin

Misty Griffin and her sister were severely abused as children by their mother and step-father. Her life was "normal" up until age six when her parents decided to move and live the
life of the Amish. They were isolated from family and others. The abuse they were subjected to was vile. When Misty was a teenager her parents forced her and her sister to live with Amish families within an Amish Community.

They were no longer isolated and had some temporarily hope of relief but that quickly changed. They found themselves living in a different level of hell. Misty eventually leaves the Amish and tries to adjust to life in the modern world with a 2nd grade education.

Griffins book is powerful and explains how communities get away with crimes based on religion and beliefs. It's a tough read emotionally but Misty's inspirational spirit gives you hope for women who may be in a similar situation.
